Danny’s Waltz

Danny’s Waltz has a specific meaning; the rhythm of the song initially came from the sound of a horse’s hooves. Animals and nature are a big part of who we are and where we feel most comfortable.

The lyrics are about how we can be bent out of shape by relationships. They come from a dark place of seeking answers but only finding chaos. The song is about recognising the flaws in ourselves and other people, a bitter-sweet song of redemption and transformation.

Musically, we wanted to start small, with a plaintive voice, a cry for help, but for that to then morph into something more cinematic, with big strings and a driving, dramatic rhythm, as that voice grows and expands to something larger. The epic outro tries to capture the freedom of looking back at the past and refusing to be defined by your worst moments, thoughts or feelings.
